About Stick Mobility

Stick Mobility is a revolutionary system designed to help you move better than you ever have and take your performance to the next level. The Stick Mobility system can be adapted to suit all activity levels making it an extremely versatile and valuable addition to your training.

The goal is to help strengthen the areas of your body needed to improve your ability to perform aspects of daily activities, occupations and sports. This is achieved through improving the three aspects of true mobility – joint range of motion, strength and neuro-motor control. By utilising the flexible Stick, you can work on either of these in isolation, or perform movements that incorporate all three aspects together.

Traditionally people would spend some time doing static stretching, and in the short term they might get some flexibility gains, but their improved flexibility is often gone the next day. Rather than chasing short term flexibility, the system focuses on improving overall mobility. What do we mean by that? Flexibility could be considered the total passive range, whereas mobility could be considered the total range that a person can control.

NEAL VALERA

Neal has been coaching strength, mobility, and movement since 2007. His love for sports, martial arts, and outdoor activities have contributed to his lifelong interest in various movement disciplines. Having trained a wide range of body types and fitness levels, Neal believes the common denominator for health, longevity, and performance is improving movement quality. Neal co-founded Stick Mobility in 2015 and is dedicated to helping people discover their physical potential and improve their ability to move well.

DENNIS DUNPHY

Dennis’s first endeavor as a fitness professional began in 1999 at 24 Hour Fitness and soon after started his own training business. Many of his clients are 40+ who experience physical issues and pain, and his greatest reward comes from helping others improve physically and mentally. His journey has led to an ever-increasing knowledge of the human body and how all the body’s systems work in unison, which led him to co-create Stick Mobility in 2015 to help others achieve better movement and health.

Why do we think the Stick Mobility system gets mobility results?

  • The flex in the Stick Mobility sticks results in your body having to switch on and create activation of the muscle to hold you in the lengthened position to prevent the “recoil” of the Stick in the opposite direction. This makes the “stretch” more active, not just a passive end range hold.
  • The Sticks can provide a larger base of support, potentially allowing the body to feel safer in the lengthened position so that exercise can be maintained for longer and adaptation may occur.
  • Isometric force (push or pull) can be generated safely in different ranges of a movement, often in joint positions that are difficult to strengthen with traditional gym exercises, e.g. outer ranges.

The human bow and arrow is a perfect illustration of the Stick Mobility system. Just holding the Stick off to the side of the body and then side bending gives your body a stretch, but then pulling back on the top of the Stick creates more activation. Hence the Stick Mobility formula: strength + flexibility + control = mobility.
